***Intro to Pottery required, Intermediate experience preferred.***
Glazing can be so unpredictable sometimes!
and the vocabulary..... what is a titanite crystal formation anyway? what does it mean when a glaze is a runner? or super fluxy? (okay, that is probably an in house term.) Why did my "stable" glaze throw a tantrum?
In this class we will learn to do intensity blending to mix custom colors with our celadons. This technique will also work with your underglazes to greatly expand your palette. We will learn about what glaze formula's contain, the difference between some key ingredients, and apply logic to understand the possible outcomes of different glaze combinations.
We are NOT mixing glazes from scratch, rather we are dipping our toes in to learning why our glazes behave the way they do. There will be handouts and power points. Really the only way out is through.
This class does NOT make any items. Nope. Not one. But we will make so many test tiles ...so.... many..... really, it will be quite a lot.
Price includes all clay, glazes, and firing of test tiles. Students attend once a week for 6 weeks. Classes are 2 hours long. All students also receive 6 hours of studio time to work independently. You may make additional items on studio time, but you must pay to fire those items. Students are required to have their own basic pottery tool kit which can be purchased online or from the studio. This is the same kit from the Intro class. This includes an 8 pieces basic pottery tool kit, bucket, large cleaning sponge, and a small towel. Class is for adults 18 and older.
